Located in New England, Cape Cod brings to mind a unbridled natural beauty spread out along stretches of sandy beach and crystal clear water — a feeling of calm and serenity. It is just this place that inspired Philippe Starck‘s latest bathroom range, which shares the same moniker, for Duravit.

The formal concept behind the wash basins and consoles was born out of the french designer’s desire to remove the barriers between nature and the indoors, expressed through distinctively thin edges, delicate lines and refined materials.
The ‘Cape Cod’ collection is characterized and visually grounded by gently curving forms.
The washbowls are produced from a high-strength ceramic mass with an elegant finish that has allowed Starck to envision them in such fine, subtle shapes. They are availab le in three different shapes: round, square and tri-oval, in order that they offer a scope that allows for individual bathroom schemes.
Approached in a similar manner is the ‘Cape Cod’ bathtubs that Starck has planned with relaxation in mind. They feature a gently shaped headrest which enhances the comfort of being within their walls, offering a bathing experience that is serene. To enhance the overall pleasure of using the bath basins, an air whirl system and/or sound system that can be operated using any Bluetooth-compatible device can be seamlessly integrated.
The consoles that accompany the ‘Cape Cod’ bathroom range have concealed and exposed storage, and express a timeless design as a result of the contrast of materials employed — the supporting, floor-standing frames are rendered in cool, smooth chrome, while the cabinets and horizontal surfaces are presented in four wood finishes: american walnut, european oak, vintage oak and white beach. The vintage oak version in particular speaks to this notion of bringing a touch of nature into the bathroom as its solid and distinctive look is defined by a visibly irregular edge, making each piece of furniture unique. This aesthetic is reminiscent to a ship’s plank that has been weathered by storms and washed ashore on the beach, as might happen in cape cod.
