Essential elements for a mid-century living room inspiration

Today we present you some essential elements for your mid-century living room Inspiration.

Mid-century modern is an architectural, interior, product and graphic design that generally describes mid-20th century developments in modern design, architecture and urban. Cara Greenberg reaffirmed this term in her book ‘Mid-Century: Furniture of the 1950s’, describing it as functional, comfortable, and chic.

The “mid-century modern” movement in the USA was a slightly more organic expression of the German Bauhaus movement, which was quickly adopted by the design world.

We can be inspired by the Egg Lounge chair above, designed by Arne Jacobsen for Fritz Hansen in 1958, that features the traditional star shaped foot and is shown here upholstered in its original cognac leather, as well as this mid century modern 3 door cabinet by George Nakashima with grilled pandanus cloth sliding doors.

The Hudson chair by Essential Home is another essential retro design arm chair that will bring a classy touch to your living room.

Mid-century modern design can be spotted everywhere, like in the TV series Mad Men . The website Houzz describes this style as having an “emphasis on pared-down forms, contemporary patterns, natural materials and a seamless flow between indoors and out [that creates] a medley of functional comfort and chic style.”

This style has been demonstrating it’s popularity through the years, just because a mid-century piece is simply a well-designed object with a timeless appeal, as Sotheby’s Joshua Holdeman says. “[Midcentury modern designs] sit very well in contemporary homes and interiors—they still feel fresh today, they still feel modern. A lot of those pieces haven’t been bettered. They still stand the test of time.”

The Marshmallow sofa by Herman miller, introduced in 1956, is described in his catalog as “the first of a series of pieces embodying a new concept in soft seating”.

Mid-century icons appear all over movies, television, and advertisements, as The Daily Show, a late 90s television ad for L’Oreal and in a print ad for Razr phones lend themselves well to successful advertisements.

The clean, well-designed lines of mid-century modern furniture are timeless.

Be inspired by the elegant elements of this style!
