Brutal decadence, this project’s name has self-named the concept, describes the referencing of modernist architecture, yet executing highly detailed moments of decadence within strong geometry and form.
Subverting traditional yacht design, the 54-meter Baglietto Superyacht, Mischief, was reimagined by Blainey North, breaking down the historical conventions of maritime interiors. Gone are the traditional navy hues, and instead are replaced with a dramatic Yves Klein ultramarine blue.
Blainey North shrouded the austere Asian timber interior in white lacquer and marble, creating a new canvas for the color scheme. Shifting the typical blue and white interior aesthetic into a more contemporary and artistic space. Alike the philosophies of Yves Klein and Mark Rothko, the power of color proves to evoke an emotional response from its viewer, and the specific blue tone used to induce both excitement and relaxation.
While Blainey’s architectural training enables her to manage the multi-layered aspects of large and complex projects, she is a contemporary thinker tapping into broad cultural references. She has an uncanny ability to push the conceptual boundaries of design by connecting the worlds of fashion, architectural history, visual arts, and film to develop a unique, and highly relevant, design language.
