Beyond The Mask: Storytelling in Black Art + Design
From the consciousness of the Black Artists + Designers Guild, an assemblage established in 2018 to raise the visibility of diverse design practitioners, “Beyond the Mask” seeks to overturn the myths, stereotypes, and romance language historically used to undervalue BLACK-ness in art and design. Spanning disciplines from textiles to ceramics, this exhibition traces the impact of Black aesthetics and identity on the world of design, exploring the enduring influences of Black pre-colonial African empires to the rebellion that birthed the Diaspora.
