ECLECTIC by Tom Dixon is the first collection of everyday home accessories, giftware and design objects which comes after ten years dedicated to creating the best in lighting and furniture design.
Launched in January 2012 at Maison & Objet , the collection uses honest and resilient materials traditional to Tom Dixon including copper, brass, marble, cast iron and wood. These products are made to be used or played with, to be treasured or to be given.
Tom Dixon is a self-taught designer who specializes in creating furniture from recycled industrial waste objects such as pipes, auto parts, pans, beams and railroad work. At four years old he moved with his family to Britain. His artistic career began when he discovered the pleasure of welding while repairing his motorcycle box damaged in an accident. Since then Dixon left the rebel lifestyle bassist and nightclub promoter to devote to experimenting with metals and welds.
Dixon became known as a designer when his S-Chair was manufactured by Giulio Cappellini. He holds an Honorary Doctorate from Birmingham City University (2004), and was awarded an OBE for services to British Design in 2000.
Certainly having one of the objects designed by Tom Dixon wear your favorite furniture, give a chic touch to your residence or you just feel proud to own a unique item.
