BEACHFRONT OASIS

TRURO, MA

With three active boys in tow, this young family found their own beachfront oasis near the tip of Cape Cod in Truro. With panoramic ocean views on two sides, the interiors were designed to complement the natural surroundings rather than compete with them. Organic materials, modern elements, and a neutral color palette stand in harmony with the ocean and dunes while creating an overall fresh and airy vibe. Sophisticated yet durable outdoor fabrics and rugs were incorporated inside and out to withstand the rigors of a family getaway well spent.

ARTFULLY INSPIRED

COHASSET, MA

There’s no greater pleasure than having a client reach out several years after the completion of their original design project to inquire about partnering on a new home. In this case, the expanded family had outgrown their space and were ready to dive into a significant renovation on a new property. With a relationship already in place, our clients again put their trust in Rachel Reider Interiors to push their design boundaries. During the year-long process, which included helping to plan addition and redesigning the kitchen and bathrooms, the goal was to create a colorful family haven that was both youthful and sophisticated. Drawing inspiration from their extensive art collection, rich hues meet modern forms in luxe yet family-friendly fabrics. Material selections and accents, such as the pale blue grasscloth in the master bath and the organically textured mirror in the entry, give a hint to the coastal location without feeling overly themed. In the kitchen, the graceful wave of the backsplash tile ties together the moss green cabinetry and brass hardware to create a showstopping, central gathering spot for the whole family.

URBAN SHADES OF GRAY

BOSTON, MA

It was clear from the first meeting in Boston’s South End that this space would require a design as cool as its inhabitants and location. Making the most of the open floor plan, Rachel Reider Interiors devised a gray-toned color scheme for a cohesive downtown vibe throughout. Varied materials and unique forms, from a modern tufted ottoman in the living space to a floating light fixture above the dining table, created visual interest. Paired with the existing sleek fireplace and floor-to-ceiling built-in cabinetry, additional layers of textiles and textures bring warmth to this edgy backdrop.

CUSTOM, CALM, AND COLOR

WESTON, MA

When approaching the renovation and design for this expansive project, the main requirement was that it suits the bustling lifestyle of a family of six (plus two dogs). Our clients expressed a desire for calm, serene spaces while also embracing pops of bright color and lively patterns. During an extensive renovation to create more modern spaces, Rachel Reider Interiors developed a neutral palette for the common areas to create a streamlined look and feel. In the family room, the custom gas fireplace and statement chandelier—set in a barrel ceiling—add visual drama. More vibrant hues and varied patterns were incorporated into secondary spaces such as the bathrooms, entryway, and playroom. In the latter, a bold rug and large-scale, 3-D piece of art are sure to spur creativity in its young inhabitants. But the true focal point of this home is the kitchen area. A massive set of folding glass doors was utilized to create the ultimate indoor-outdoor living space. The interior eat-in kitchen, accented with a stunning stone slab backsplash, blends seamlessly with its outdoor counterpart. With a fire pit, dining table, and multiple seating areas, space is a welcome extension of the home for kids and adults alike.

ELEVATED ENTERTAINING

WELLESLEY, MA

While comfort and functionality were paramount for this busy household with young children, the ability to entertain in style was also high on our clients’ wish list. Set against a neutral palette, sophisticated materials, forms, and textures were incorporated to elevate the overall design. In the entry, an oversized chandelier serves as a stunning sculptural focal point for all ages, while a vibrant wall installation provides a welcoming pop of color. Plush fabrics and rich jewel tone touch in the living spaces meet their match with a trio of mixed metal tables and glass elements.

A THOROUGHLY MODERN CLASSIC

WESTON, MA

Having purchased a classic New England shingle style home for their busy family with three young children and a puppy, our clients were seeking an interior aesthetic that would reflect their modern design taste. With a goal of creating spaces that would function well for their family and also be suitable for frequent entertaining, Rachel Reider Interiors developed a plan that put the emphasis on luxe materials, soft textures, and elevated finishes against a palette of off-white, shades of gray, and a hint of blue. This neutral scheme proved to be the ideal backdrop for the clients’ extensive art collection, allowing each piece to serve as a focal point. A sense of warmth and visual interest was added by layering metallic finishes, honed marble, crackled glass, and soft upholstery throughout. Reworked fireplaces with custom mantels completed the project, ensuring that the new modern interiors remained in sync with the home’s overall architectural shell.

CITY MEETS SUBURBAN STYLE

WELLESLEY, MA

You can take the family out of the city, but you don’t have to take the city out of the family. Determined to bring their urban sensibilities with them when moving to the suburbs from Boston’s South End, this family of four – plus a new puppy – chose a 2014 classic stone and cedar-shingled beauty by Patrick Ahearn as their new home base. Rachel Reider Interiors created a soft modern interior design that complimented the more traditional New England exterior by choosing fixtures, finishes, and furnishings that spoke to their clients’ sophisticated style. Sunbrella fabrics, faux leathers, and washable textiles were used with everyday living and family-friendly practicality in mind. A color palette of blues, greens, and purples creates a cohesive interior, with bold hues taking center stage in living spaces like the family room and more subdued shades in the bedrooms.

LUXE LOFT LIVING

BOSTON, MA

Drawn to the industrial spaces in Boston’s South End, this professional couple looked to the Rachel Reider Interior’s team to create a hip urban look that would stay true to space’s provenance. At the same time, keeping the design warm and inviting for both everyday use and entertaining purposes was paramount. In order to weave these two distinct vibes together, a neutral foundation of steely grey, black, white, and metallic finishes was paired with varying shades of blue and purple – ranging from subtle to saturated – for a sophisticated feel. Floor-to-ceiling purple lacquered built-ins in the office pack a major design punch, as does the use of mixed metals in the lighting, furniture, and accents throughout.

PENTHOUSE PIED-A-TERRE

BOSTON, MA

These empty-nesters knew they wanted to be both in the city and by the water, and Boston’s waterfront, in the midst of a major residential resurgence, was the perfect place to roost. As part of a full renovation of this penthouse loft, Rachel Reider Interiors created a modern urban design scheme replete with luxe finishes and layered textures that ties the space and environment together. A living room wall in varying shades of antique mirrored glass both reflects the water and makes a bold statement, while the fireplace wall of chiseled limestone tile mimics its movement. In the kitchen, unique finishes such as leather, burnished metal, and wire-brushed lacquered cabinetry give off a downtown vibe, accented by a rippled backsplash that references the spectacular view.

CONNECTICUT COUNTRYSIDE

SOUTHPORT, CT

While this family loves raising their three young girls in the heart of Manhattan the countryside in nearby Connecticut provides a much-needed calming counterpoint. Trading in skyline living on weekends and summer vacation, the owners were eager to bring new life to this beautiful Victorian. Rachel Reider Interiors created a renovation and design plan that would respect the existing elegant period details while reflecting the family’s more youthful and casual style. The interiors are an eclectic mix of old and new, as evidenced by the traditional forms found throughout covered with modern and family-friendly fabrics. Strong pops of color on the woodwork and kitchen cabinetry stand out against a neutral palette of gray, white, and black, with architectural light fixtures drawing the eye upward. The home is now equally ready for entertaining and low-key quality family time.
