Though her designs can be found nationwide, Chicago is the home base for Summer Thornton’s incredible talent. She was deemed Chicago’s Best Traditional Designer by Modern Luxury magazine among her other prestigious awards. Her use of strong color and a touch of quirk, for example, make her spaces stand out above the rest.
Not your typical dental office – we gave this commercial office structure the personal touch. A gut-remodel allowed us to improve the bones – crown moldings, traditional details, and a layout that allowed this dentist to expand her practice 3-fold and love going to work every day.
On East Lake Shore Drive, this co-op project combined 2 separate units last updated in the ’60s into 1 lavish apartment with a gut-remodel, relocating the kitchen to the front of the apartment overlooking the lake.
PALMOLIVE BUILDING CONDO
Contemporary styling from the early 2000’s dated this apartment, so we were hired to design & remodel it to its pre-war styling with classic design cues and details. All new moldings, updated stone and tiling, new kitchens and baths, and of course a fresh palette & tailored furnishings made this Palmolive building luxury condo remodel a beauty.
LAKE SHORE DRIVE CO-OP
Set in Chicago’s most prestigious Co-Op building, Summer Thornton was brought in to breathe new life and a fresh perspective to this 1929 Rosario Candela-designed building. The homeowner loved the views of the water & the location, but the decor felt heavy with dark wood Louie XIV boiserie paneling and the layout seemed dated with a galley kitchen. Summer partnered with Liederbach & Graham Architects to renovate, open up, and give a fresh and colorful facelift to this marquis’s apartment.
COLORFUL LAKE HOUSE
There are few places better to gather friends & family than a lake house. We helped design this new construction home perfect for entertaining at the lake giving it a colorful palette and patterns that feel perfect for summer fun.
WILMETTE HISTORICAL HOME
Nestled in the highly coveted CAGE neighborhood on brick-paved Chestnut street in Wilmette, this historical home had great bones but felt too traditional. The homeowner wanted color and curiosities throughout to create interest and to make the home feel personal.
Interior design, remodel, and expansion of a classic french Tudor style home on country club.
LINCOLN PARK MODERN
You wouldn’t guess it now, but this home started as a very traditional luxury new construction home. The location was perfect – just off Armitage in the heart of Lincoln Park – but the homeowners really wanted something more modern, so they enlisted us to transform it to fit their tastes. We bleached the oak floors and implemented a light, bright and modern palette.
NAPLES FLORIDA VACATION HOME
This home in Naples Florida was a ground-up build where Summer Thornton was brought in to oversee interior architecture and interior design choosing finishes as well as furnishings & decor throughout. Since this was a second home we even went as far as buying all the dishes, kitchen utensils, and filling the frames with photos so that the homeowners could jump right in the pool when they arrived!
