Dior invited 17 artists and designers to re-imagine the unmistakable medallion chair, a symbol of the Louis XVI style and emblem of the Maison since its inception. An iconic sign of the Maison from the beginning, it is now reinterpreted by 17 international designers, architects, and artists at Supersalone 2021. You can see the projects at the Palazzo Citterio until Friday 10 September.

Tapered, with an oval back, the Louis XVI chair was chosen by Christian Dior to accommodate his guests against an incomparable background, which he himself describes in his memoirs as “sober, simple, but above all classic and exquisitely Parisian”. The story begins with the collaboration of the stylist-tailor with Victor Grandpierre, first a photographer and then a decorator; together they produced the famous neoclassical interiors in gray and white that has become the code of the Dior world.
From France to Japan, from Lebanon to South Africa – the list of creative influences include Sam Baron, Nacho Carbonell, Pierre Charpin, Dimorestudio, Khaled El Mays, Martino Gamper, Constance Guisset, India Mahdavi, Nendo, Joy de Rohan Chabot, Linde Freya Tangelder, Atang Tshikare, Seungjin Yang, Ma Yansong, Jinyeong Yeon, Tokujin Yoshioka, and Pierre Yovanovitch – are called to rethink, without boundaries to creativity, this chaise medaillon that has the scent of history.
